Landscaping Services in Waterloo - Kitchener

CONTACT US >

If you're planning a new garden bed, a stone border, or a yard that handles heavy rain better, this is the page for it. Paragon Property Group provides landscaping services in Waterloo and Kitchener for homes and commercial properties, from the first design sketch through the seasonal work that follows.

We've been doing property maintenance across Kitchener-Waterloo for over a decade. Licensed and insured, set up for the one-off project and for the property somebody needs looking after all year. Either way we start by coming out to see the site.

Landscape Design

Design is the part where you tell us what the space is for, and we come back with a plan you can build from. A family yard, a rental that has to look presentable without much fuss, a commercial entrance people walk through every morning. Each one points somewhere different, so the first conversation is about use rather than style.

Here's what we're looking at while we walk the property. Where the sun lands through the day. How the ground slopes. Which trees are staying and what they'll shade in five years. Where water sits after a heavy rain. Those four rule out more options than anything else, and they're the reason a plan drawn from a photo rarely survives contact with the actual yard.

Two things are yours to decide. The budget, and how much upkeep you want to sign up for. The second one matters as much as the first. Tell us you'd rather not be out there every weekend and the plan changes, usually toward stone, shrubs and perennials that hold their shape on their own.

For commercial sites the brief shifts toward entrances, walkways and sightlines from the parking area, and toward materials that still look right in August when nobody's had time to fuss over them.

Landscape Installation

Installation is the build. We handle hardscaping, decorative stone, garden establishment, drainage work and precise grading, so a project that needs all five doesn't need five different contractors.

The sequence runs grading and drainage, then hard surfaces and stone, then planting last. That order isn't negotiable on our jobs, because redoing a slope after the patio means lifting the patio.

Things worth raising with us before we schedule:

  • Access for equipment, especially on a narrow lot or behind a fence with one gate.
  • Whether the site stays in use during the build, which matters on commercial properties where entrances and parking can't close.
  • Anything buried that you know about, like an irrigation line, a dog fence or a septic bed.
  • Timing against other trades, if a deck, fence or pool is also going in.

Garden and Planting Work

The garden establishment covers bed preparation, plant selection and planting.

Selection is the part most people want input on, and it's worth your time. Bring us photos of beds you liked, or point at something on a neighbouring street. We'll tell you what suits the light and moisture in your particular spot and what's likely to sulk there.

Spacing is where we'll push back occasionally. New beds look sparse the first summer because the plants are spaced for the size they'll reach, not the size they arrive at. It's deliberate, and the alternative is a bed you're thinning out by year three.

New plantings need watering through that first season while roots establish. We'll tell you what yours needs before we leave, and if watering isn't something you want to manage, we'll plan around it.

Decorative Stone

Decorative stone goes in where mulch would need topping up every year. Narrow side yards. The strip along a foundation. Driveway edges, bed borders, anywhere you want a line that stays put.

Most of the work is underneath. The base layer is what keeps weeds down and keeps the stone from sinking into the soil, so that's where the labour goes on a stone install, and it's the thing to ask about when you're comparing quotes.

We install it on its own or as part of a larger bed or hardscape layout.

Grading and Drainage

If water pools somewhere on your property, start here rather than with plants.

Grading sets which way water travels across the site, and the ground beside a building should always be sending it away from the foundation. Drainage solutions take over where grading alone can't move it far enough or fast enough.

Which one your property needs depends on the soil and the lay of the land, so this is one we'll want to see in person, ideally after a rain. Southern Ontario freeze and thaw cycles work on soil and stone every winter, which is why we don't cut the base preparation short.

Landscape Maintenance

Finished landscaping needs upkeep, and the first couple of seasons after an install matter most, while plants are rooting in and early pruning decides their shape.

Our landscape maintenance covers trimming, bed upkeep and seasonal cleanups. Book it as a single visit, or as regular appointments through the year. Both fit into the outdoor property management plans we set up for private homes, rental buildings and commercial sites.

We also offer routine lawn care and pressure washing on our outdoor property maintenance services.

Spring Cleanup

What does spring cleanup include?

Spring cleanup is the visit that gets a property back in shape after winter and ready for the growing season. It's one of our busiest services, and for a lot of owners it's where Kitchener property maintenance for the year begins.

A cleanup visit covers:

  • Clearing winter debris, meaning the leaves, twigs and branches that have collected on lawns, in beds and around entrances over the months.
  • Cutting back old growth on perennials and ornamental grasses before the new shoots get tall enough to be damaged in the process.
  • Trimming shrubs that have grown out of shape, with how far back depending on what the plant is.
  • Raking out and edging the beds so they're ready for planting.
  • Cleaning off walkways, patios and other hard surfaces that have picked up grime and salt residue.
  • Getting the lawn ready to hand over to regular mowing and care.

Matted leaves are the reason we start with debris. Left in place they hold moisture against the base of plants and block light from new growth, and they tend to pile up exactly where meltwater needs to drain.

If a surface needs more than a sweep, pressure washing and sealing can go on the same visit or be booked separately.

When do homeowners and property managers book spring cleanup?

As soon as the snow is gone and the ground is firm enough to work on, which around here usually means early spring.

Soggy ground is the main thing that moves a date. Working saturated soil compacts it and leaves ruts in the lawn, so we'd rather wait a few days than hand back a yard that needs repair. Get your quote in while the ground is still thawing and we can schedule you for the first workable stretch.

Property managers tend to book earliest. Entrances, walkways and planted beds are the first things tenants and visitors see once people are outside again, and on a managed site the cleanup usually kicks off the whole seasonal schedule, with lawn care, garden upkeep and pressure washing following through the warmer months.

Homeowners mostly call on the first warm weekend, when the state of the yard is suddenly very visible, or when they're planning new planting and want the beds cleared first.

One thing worth knowing: a thorough fall cleanup shortens the spring one, because there's less that's had all winter to mat down.

Spring cleanup can be a one-time visit or the first step in an ongoing outdoor property management plan, and we offer a consultation to talk through which suits the property.

Garden Preparation

Garden preparation is the step between a cleared bed and a planted one. Old growth out, soil refreshed, edges cut and the bed shaped so it holds that line.

It doesn't have to wait for spring. Beds prepared in fall are ready to plant the moment the ground warms, and fall is the easier time to reshape one, since nothing's growing in it to work around.

For owners with several beds or a larger property, fall preparation also spreads out work that would otherwise land in spring, which suits a seasonal Kitchener property maintenance schedule.
